Good News for Sweetwater Preserve!
March 2, 2011
The Pima County Board of Supervisors is set to purchase 187 acres to connect Sweetwater Wash to the Sweetwater Preserve Park preserving wildlife corridors and protecting against development. The purchase will increase the size of the park to almost 900 acres. The county, paying $1.6 million, is using general funds for the purchase. The cost will be repaid over time from a special environmental fund from the J.W. Marriott Starr Pass Resort. The environmental fund was set up to help manage, maintain and expand Tucson Mountain Park. TMA was in full support of the purchase and actively sought and petitioned the county to achieve this goal.
